Did you say geocaching?

Geocaching is like a treasure hunt for the digital generation, where you can enjoy the freedom of being outside and exploring new places. More and more people are discovering how much fun it is, and all you need is a handheld GPS and a sense of adventure. Since 2016, the Tille and Ignon Valleys Tourist Office has been hiding geocaches in some very unusual places… Ready? Then grab your smartphones!

An activity to consolidate outdoor activities...

In 2016, Covati wanted to develop geocaching, an outdoor activity that fits in with the local green tourism development strategy. Geocaching offers a fun and unique way to discover the natural, historical, and unusual sites of the Tille and Ignon valleys. This activity also introduces new audiences to the region using new technologies.

In practical terms, how do you find a cache?

Download the “Geocaching” app on your smartphone or use a GPS device.

Search for the “cache” using the GPS coordinates and the hint, if there is one. There may also be a descriptive text.

Once you have found the cache, write your username in the logbook inside the cache.

If there are items inside the cache, you can take one... but you must leave another “treasure” in return.

Replace the cache as you found it, and out of sight of non-initiates.

Report the cache found on the app or website using your login details.

You are now a geocacher!
