Espace Carnot
En quelques mots
Located on avenue Carnot, the Espace Carnot is a cultural and digital centre offering a range of services open to all. The media library and exhibition room are on the ground floor. The digital space and video games room are on the 1st floor, along with the games library and digital museum.
Formerly the Carnot school, it was built in 1884 using stone extracted from the Is-sur-Tille quarry. An extension was added in 1888 to gain around 16m² to accommodate the boys' school. In the 1890s, the town experienced a sharp rise in population following the arrival of the railway and the arrival of many railway workers. At the time, there were three teachers for 129 pupils. The idea was to extend the Carnot school by adding two wings to maintain the separation between the girls' school and the boys' school. The work was carried out in 1898, giving the Carnot building the appearance we know today.
