En quelques mots
The village of Gemeaux has many narrow streets that give the village a labyrinthine appearance. These alleyways, also known as trèjes, are narrow passages that lead from the main streets to the upper part of the village. They enabled the inhabitants to escape in the event of an invasion. These alleyways also provided access to the vineyards, as Gemeaux was also famous until the early 20th century for its Côtes des Violettes wine. It is even said that this wine was served at the table of the Tsar of Russia.
