En quelques mots
Place du Marronnier is located halfway up the hill. It owes its name to the superb chestnut tree that shades it. There are also two lime trees, a calvary, a statue of the Black Madonna and a walled garden. The statue of the Black Madonna marks the site of the former church, which was built in 1197 and demolished in 1844. This cast-iron statue was made by Daurenne. Thanks to his close collaboration with renowned artists such as Auguste Bartholdi and Emmanuel Frémiet, he quickly became a major figure in French cast-iron art.
